Last week, Microsoft released a new support page addressing an issue that users of the Microsoft 365 version of Outlook may encounter when trying to copy text in an email. Specifically, if you are on Current Channel Version 2409 (Build 18025.20096) of classic Outlook, the app may crash when using the Ctrl + C keyboard shortcut to copy text, especially when using languages with an IME (Input Method Editor).
Microsoft is currently investigating the problem to identify its cause and plans to resolve it with a future patch. While awaiting a permanent fix, there are two workarounds that you can try:
Option 1: Revert to a previous version of the IME. Microsoft provides detailed instructions on how to do this on a separate support page.
Option 2: Roll back Outlook to a version earlier than 2409. You can utilize the Update History feature in Microsoft 365 apps to switch Outlook to version 2408. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges by right-clicking on the Start menu button and selecting Terminal (Admin).
2. Enter the following command into the command prompt: cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun
3. Then, type and enter this command: officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17928.20156
In a similar incident back in August, a bug was discovered that caused Outlook and other Microsoft 365 apps to crash when typing text or using spell check. This issue was resolved in an update released approximately a month later. Therefore, it may take a similar amount of time for the current bug to be fixed as well.
