Multitasking just got better for Meta Quest users with the latest software update. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, recently showcased a new feature in a video posted on Threads. The update allows users to have six windows open simultaneously on their Meta Quest headsets, doubling the previous limit of three windows.
To access this new feature, users will need to update to the Meta Quest v67 software. Once updated, users can enable the six-window mode by navigating to “Settings” and then selecting “Experimental.” From there, users can toggle on the option for six-window multitasking.
It’s important to note that while users can have six windows open at once, there are some limitations in terms of window placement. Users can arrange up to three panels in a new ‘hinged’ layout and then place up to three more panels anywhere on the screen. This setup aims to provide users with the ultimate multitasking experience.
If users want to focus on a specific window, they can click the “Theater View” button on any panel to bring it to the front and dim the other windows. However, the performance of the six-window multitasking feature may vary depending on the content being viewed. In Zuckerberg’s demonstration, some videos experienced a dip in quality when all six windows were open simultaneously.
In addition to the six-window multitasking feature, the v67 software update also includes content highlights from selected creators in the Horizon Feed. Meta has partnered with creators such as A Wolf in VR, SteveKnows, and m155yu to showcase their content. Users can like, share, and explore new games and apps recommended by these creators. Destination tagging is also included, allowing users to easily jump into any content that interests them.
While the six-window viewing feature will be available immediately after the software update, the creator highlights will be rolled out gradually. Overall, the new software update aims to enhance productivity and social interaction for Meta Quest users.
As technology continues to evolve, it is exciting to see how virtual reality platforms like Meta Quest are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in terms of multitasking and content consumption. The ability to have six windows open simultaneously on a VR headset opens up new possibilities for productivity and entertainment. Users can now seamlessly switch between different apps, games, and experiences without having to constantly close and reopen windows. This update not only improves the user experience but also showcases the potential for future innovations in virtual reality technology.
