Mini Windows PC: Smartphone Look-Alike by Chinese Startup Misses the Mark

Mini PCs have been gaining popularity due to their compact size and portability, offering the power of a regular computer in a smaller package. One unique mini PC that has caught our attention is the Meenhong JX5, which resembles a smartphone and runs on Windows 11, reminiscent of Microsoft’s unsuccessful Windows Phone venture.

The Meenhong JX5 features a durable aluminum body and a 5.5-inch touchscreen with FullHD resolution. While the screen is adequate for use, reading small text or interacting with certain on-screen elements may be challenging. Measuring 161mm in height and 92mm in width, it is slightly larger than an iPhone 15 Pro Max but notably thicker, mainly due to the inclusion of a cooling fan.

Powered by an Intel N100 processor with Intel UHD Graphics, the JX5 offers up to 12GB LPDDR5 4800MHz soldered-in RAM and is available for purchase on AliExpress under the SZBOX brand. The base model, without an SSD or OS, is priced at $220, while the top version with a 2TB SSD costs $356.32.

Equipped with WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, a full USB Type-C port, a USB-A 3.0 port, two USB-A 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 3.5mm audio jack, the JX5 can support two additional 4K@60fps screens for a three-screen setup. However, it lacks an SD card slot.

In comparison to its predecessor, the Meenhong JX2, which lacked a battery, the JX5 features a 1500 mAh battery, providing approximately one hour of usage between charges. Despite running on Windows 11, users have the option to switch to a Linux OS if preferred. The absence of a webcam in the JX5 is a notable oversight.

Similar to HiGOLE’s tablets, the GOLE1 and GOLE1 Plus, the Meenhong JX5 offers a compact solution for users in need of a portable touchscreen device. While the JX5 presents an intriguing option, its limited battery life and lack of certain features may hinder its overall appeal.

Overall, the Meenhong JX5’s smartphone-like design and Windows 11 compatibility make it a standout in the mini PC market. However, potential buyers should consider its limitations, such as battery life and missing features, before making a purchase decision.
