Spotify has recently introduced a new beta feature called AI Playlist for Premium users in the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. This feature allows users to create and refine custom playlists using text prompts. Initially launched in the UK and Australia in April, Spotify describes this tool as a way to effortlessly transform your creative ideas into playlists.
The company provided examples such as “Upbeat folk music for a scenic fall road trip” and “2000 era hype jams for the tailgate.” If the initial results of the AI-generated playlist don’t quite match your expectations, you can further refine it by providing additional prompts like “less peppy” or “hold the Nickelback.”
Spotify emphasizes personalization with this feature, as it selects tracks based on the user’s listening habits. The AI works best with prompts related to genre, mood, or artists, but users can also experiment with topics like animals, activities, movie characters, colors, and emojis.
To access the AI Playlist feature, Premium subscribers can find it in the Spotify mobile app. However, the rollout of this feature seems to be gradual, so some users may need to wait for it to become available. By navigating to Your Library, tapping the + button, and selecting “AI Playlist,” users can start generating their custom tracklists using the pop-up chat tool.
As of the latest update on September 24, 2024, at 4:05 PM ET, Spotify has clarified that the AI Playlist feature is being gradually rolled out and may not be accessible to all Premium subscribers yet. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new feature that aims to enhance the music listening experience for Spotify users.
