Analogue, the company behind the popular Analogue Pocket handheld console, is set to release a new limited edition version of its device. Unlike the previous iterations that featured plastic shells, this new version will boast an anodized aluminum body and buttons. The company will launch a limited run of all-aluminum Analogue Pocket consoles in four different colors: white, gray, black, and indigo. These consoles are meticulously crafted, with every piece entirely CNC’d from aluminum, including the frame and buttons.
While the new aluminum version offers a more premium look and feel, it comes with a hefty price tag of $500, which is more than double the cost of the regular plastic Pocket. Despite the difference in materials, the aluminum Pocket will run the same software as its plastic counterpart and remain compatible with all cartridges and accessories.
In addition to the new material, the latest firmware updates have significantly enhanced the capabilities of the Pocket. Analogue introduced OpenFPGA support, allowing the FPGA chip to emulate consoles like the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis, expanding the device’s functionality beyond portable systems. Subsequent updates have addressed bugs and introduced features like display filters to replicate the look of classic CRT TVs.
The Analogue Pocket Adapter Set, released in March as part of firmware update 2.2, enables the Pocket to support various vintage game cartridges, further increasing its versatility. The device has come a long way since its initial launch in 2021, with ongoing software improvements and hardware updates making it a more robust and feature-rich handheld console.
While the aluminum Analogue Pocket may not be for everyone due to its premium price point, it offers a durable and stylish alternative to the standard plastic models. With its sleek design and enhanced capabilities, the aluminum Pocket caters to retro gaming enthusiasts looking for a high-quality portable gaming experience.
