Amazon is stepping up its game to compete with Walmart+ by offering Prime members a discount on gasoline in response to rising fuel prices. Prime members can now enjoy a 10 cents per gallon discount at approximately 7,000 Amoco, AM/PM, and BP gas stations nationwide, potentially saving them up to $70 each year on fuel costs.

To take advantage of this new benefit, Prime members need to sign up for Earnify, a loyalty program used by BP and other BP-owned gas stations and convenience stores. Additionally, Amazon plans to introduce a savings offer for electric vehicle charging through BP Pulse, BP’s electric vehicle charging service, next year.

This move comes four years after Walmart’s Walmart+ program offered its members the chance to save 10 cents per gallon at more than 13,000 Exxon, Mobil, Murphy, and Walmart gas stations. Similarly, Sam’s Club, a division of Walmart, and Costco also provide fuel discounts as part of their membership perks.

The discounted gasoline is the latest addition to Amazon’s $14.99 per month Prime membership, which already includes a range of benefits such as free deliveries, Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, Amazon Photos, Prime Reading, GrubHub+, and more.

As Amazon continues to expand its membership perks, it is clear that the competition between Amazon Prime and Walmart+ is heating up. By offering discounts on gasoline and electric vehicle charging, Amazon is aiming to attract and retain more Prime members while providing additional value to their existing customer base. With the rising popularity of electric vehicles, the inclusion of electric vehicle charging savings in the future is a strategic move that aligns with current trends in the automotive industry.

Overall, Amazon’s decision to introduce gasoline discounts and electric vehicle charging savings for Prime members demonstrates the company’s commitment to staying competitive and meeting the evolving needs of consumers in today’s market. This new benefit not only offers savings on essential expenses like fuel but also positions Amazon as a leader in providing innovative and valuable membership perks.
