AMD recently announced that they will be launching their next-gen PC GPUs with RDNA 5 technology in early 2025. This news came from AMD’s chief executive, Dr. Lisa Su, during a presentation to analysts discussing the company’s performance in the third quarter of 2024.

While AMD’s data-center products account for about half of their revenue, the focus was on their Gaming business, which saw a revenue decline of 69 percent to $462 million. This was primarily due to a decrease in inventory from gaming consoles like Microsoft and Sony, impacting AMD’s GPUs for gaming consoles.

Despite the decline in revenue, Su highlighted the upcoming launch of the first RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025. These GPUs are expected to offer significant improvements in gaming performance, ray-tracing performance, and new AI capabilities. Reports suggest that these GPUs may be known as the RX 8000 GPU, Navi 48, or Navi 44, targeting midrange price and performance points.

In addition to the GPU announcement, AMD has also revealed a launch date for their next gaming/content-creation GPU, the Ryzen 9000X3D, set for November 7. With a 29 percent year-over-year growth in revenue driven by strong demand for Ryzen processors, AMD’s Consumer business is expected to perform well in the second half of the year.

Looking ahead to 2025, Su expressed confidence in AMD’s PC portfolio, expecting continued growth in the mid-single digits in the PC market. The launch of new GPUs and processors, combined with consumer migration from Windows 10 ending support in October 2025, sets the stage for an exciting CES 2025.

With Nvidia expected to announce their next-gen “Blackwell” or RTX 5000 cards at the CES 2025 show, the competition in the GPU market is heating up. AMD’s roadmap for early 2025 and the overall growth in the PC market signal a promising start to the new year for both consumers and tech enthusiasts alike.
