Google has recently introduced enhanced AI image search and history features in Chrome, aiming to provide users with more efficient and effective browsing experiences. The updates include new tools such as Google Lens integration for image searches and AI-powered search for browsing history.
One of the key features is the improved image search tool, which allows users to perform a more universal image search by clicking on a dedicated Lens camera button in the toolbar. This feature enables users to make a rectangular selection within an image or click on an object to see relevant results in a sidebar. Users can further refine their search results with additional queries and refinements.
Moreover, the Lens tool is not limited to just images but can also scan text on a page, even if it’s in an awkward format like a math equation. This functionality extends to videos as well, making it a versatile tool for visual searches.
In addition to the image search features, Chrome is also introducing new tab comparison tools that generate product overviews across multiple tabs. This tool will help users compare specifications, prices, and other details more efficiently. Furthermore, an AI-powered search for browsing history is being introduced, allowing users to use conversational queries to find previously visited sites.
Google is taking a cautious approach to the rollout of these AI features, ensuring that user privacy and data security are maintained. The AI-powered history search feature will be opt-in at launch, requiring user permission to enable. The AI model will only be trained using synthetic data, and users can rest assured that the search tool will not have access to their browsing history in Incognito Mode.
These new capabilities are set to enhance the browsing experience for Chrome users, offering more advanced search options and tools to streamline online activities. While these updates may not sway dedicated users of other browsers, they provide a compelling reason to keep Chrome installed for those who may benefit from the new features.
