Fresh from investing $120 million of his own money into his latest film, Megalopolis, which has been described as “crazy” and features a scene with Jon Voigt’s character admiring himself, acclaimed filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola is not slowing down. He is now venturing into a new and unique business endeavor: the launch of a filmmaker-friendly hotel.
The All-Movie Hotel, situated in Peach Tree, Georgia, offers 27 different rooms and provides “state of the art on-site post-production facilities to create a collaborative environment for filmmakers to edit, perfect, and showcase their work,” according to Coppola’s website. Additionally, the hotel includes a small theater for occasional movie screenings. Scheduled to open to the public on July 25th, the All-Movie Hotel is part of Coppola’s existing chain of hotels known as The Family Coppola Hideaways, with other locations in Belize, Guatemala, Argentina, and Italy.
“After spending two years in Peachtree City while filming Megalopolis, I fell in love with the place,” Coppola expressed on his website. “We have created a unique space for filmmakers, film enthusiasts, and all our Hideaway guests worldwide to enjoy this new hideaway and interact with filmmakers in the midst of their work.”
Even if you are not a filmmaker, you can stay at Coppola’s new hotel and, as he suggests, mingle with directors or crew members who may be staying there. For filmmakers interested in utilizing the hotel’s amenities, there are various cinema-making features available, such as an “editorial wing” with individual suites for production and sound editing, as well as the theater for screenings. The location also offers an “additional ethernet patch bay that allows you to add a localized server and port out to all rooms/suites located within the property.”
The idea for the filmmaker-friendly hotel appears to have originated from Coppola’s experience while directing Megalopolis. “When I needed a break from the movie, I would think about this hotel, and vice versa,” Coppola revealed in a promotional video about the establishment.
Known for his unconventional approach, Coppola, the director behind iconic films like The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now, has ventured into various businesses such as family-owned wineries, hotels, a cannabis company, a literary journal, a restaurant and cafe, and resorts. Similar to his diverse ventures, his latest self-funded film, Megalopolis, has received mixed reviews but is undoubtedly an original creation, much like Coppola himself.
