As Election Day approaches, transportation companies are stepping up to offer freebies and discounts to help voters get to the polls. Lime is providing free rides with the promo code VOTE2024, while Bird and Spin are also offering two free rides with the code RockTheVote2024. Lyft is giving 50% discounts, capped at $10, to riders going to vote, and Uber is offering the same deal when users click on the “Go Vote!” tile in the app.
In addition to ride-hail services, Uber Eats is offering 25% off orders up to $15 on Election Day from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day. Hertz is giving customers one free day when they rent for two or more days with the promo code 211636. However, Zipcar, which helped in 2016, does not seem to be participating this year.
Google and Moovit are also providing valuable information to voters. Google offers details on in-person voting and ballot dropbox locations, while Moovit has integrated polling locations into its app along with voter registration information and details on transit agencies offering free rides.
Various transit agencies across the country are also offering free rides on Election Day to encourage voter turnout. For example, Durham is providing free bus rides all day to make it easier for residents to cast their ballots. This initiative aims to remove the cost barrier and increase voter participation not only this year but in future elections as well.
