A new version of the Google Nest Learning Thermostat may be on the horizon, as leaked promotional photos suggest. The leaked images show a design similar to the current model but with a possible switch from a moveable dial to a touchscreen interface.
The photos, shared on Twitter by Arsène Lupin and reported by 9to5Google, reveal promo materials for a new Google Nest Temperature Sensor. This sensor is expected to be compatible with three Nest thermostats, including the upcoming Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen).
The new Learning Thermostat appears to feature a rounded glass face and a refined interface. While the 2020 model had a rotate and press/click interface, the redesigned device seems to have touch controls on a larger glass surface with a thinner metal bezel.
Although details on the new thermostat’s functionality are limited, an FCC listing suggests that it will retain the wireless capabilities of its predecessor, including Soli low-energy motion sensing. Integration with Matter could be a potential upgrade, but further information is needed.
The original Nest Temperature Sensor was released in 2018, making the upcoming Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd Gen) long overdue. This sensor, which resembles its predecessor and connects to the Google Home app, allows users to set desired room temperatures at specific times.
While some users may have hoped for additional features like connected radiator valves for room-specific temperature control, there is no indication of such enhancements at this time. The release of the Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) and Temperature Sensor (2nd Gen) may coincide with the upcoming Google Pixel event on August 13.
