Lady Gaga is taking on a new role in the upcoming movie Joker: Folie à Deux, where she will be portraying a character named Lee, who is essentially a version of Harley Quinn. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Gaga discussed the transformation she underwent to bring Lee to life on the big screen.
Gaga explained that she had to step away from her usual extravagant persona and focus on embodying the character of Lee. This meant adjusting her singing style to fit Lee’s personality, which required her to sing in a way that was different from her typical performances. She had to let go of the technicalities of being a pop star and embrace the imperfections in Lee’s singing, even welcoming the occasional “bum notes.”
In Joker: Folie à Deux, Lee is depicted as a music psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, rather than the psych intern Harley Quinn is known as in the original Joker story. Director Todd Phillips emphasized that Gaga brought her own interpretation to the character, while still incorporating elements of Harley from the comics. He praised Gaga’s performance, comparing Lee to women who are infatuated with notorious criminals behind bars.
The film is set to be released in theaters on October 4th, and fans are eager to see Gaga’s take on this new version of Harley Quinn.
