OpenAI has introduced an exciting new feature called Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) for ChatGPT’s paying customers. This feature aims to make interactions with ChatGPT more natural and engaging. Initially, AVM will be available to customers in the Plus and Teams tiers, with Enterprise and Edu customers gaining access in the following week.
As part of the rollout, AVM comes with a fresh design represented by a blue animated sphere, replacing the previous black dots. Users will receive a pop-up notification in the ChatGPT app next to the voice icon once AVM is accessible to them.
Moreover, ChatGPT now offers five new voices named Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale, bringing the total number of voices to nine. These nature-inspired names align with the goal of making interactions with ChatGPT feel more natural. Notably, the voice Sky, showcased during a previous update, has been removed due to similarities with Scarlett Johansson’s voice, leading to a legal threat.
Although the rollout of AVM includes various enhancements and new features, such as Custom Instructions and Memory, there are still some features missing, like video and screen sharing capabilities demonstrated in a previous update. OpenAI has not provided a timeline for the release of these multimodal functions.
Despite some glitches observed during testing, OpenAI claims to have improved AVM’s performance, making it better at understanding accents and ensuring smoother and faster conversations. Additionally, some customization features like Custom Instructions and Memory have been extended to AVM, allowing users to personalize their interactions with ChatGPT.
It’s important to note that AVM is not yet available in certain regions, including the EU, the U.K., Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. While OpenAI continues to enhance ChatGPT’s capabilities, users can look forward to a more natural and immersive experience with the introduction of AVM.
