Opera is excited to announce the release of Opera One R2 in developer beta, introducing new multimedia controls, split tabs, and enhanced AI capabilities. This new version aims to provide users with a fresh look and improved functionality.

One of the key features of Opera One R2 is the new multimedia controls. Previously located on the sidebar, these controls now have their own floating window, similar to the picture-in-picture video module. Users can resize the floating controls to match their browser’s theme and access options like play/pause, next, previous, pop-out, and volume control.

Additionally, Opera One R2 offers new tab controls, including a split tab window feature that allows users to work on two web pages simultaneously. This functionality is similar to what other browsers like Arc and SigmaOS have integrated into their products.

In terms of design, Opera One R2 introduces a new indicator called “traces” to highlight recently closed tabs. These traces will appear as light or dark, depending on the time passed since the tab was closed, making it easier for users with multiple tabs open to navigate their browsing history.

Moreover, Opera has been experimenting with AI features, such as its “Aria” assistant, AI-powered summarization, and local use of large language models (LLMs). The company has already rolled out features like image and voice generation and image understanding through its experimental AI program, which will be integrated into Opera One R2.

With the new version, Opera introduces a page context mode that allows users to ask Aria questions about a webpage, such as finding, translating, or summarizing specific information. This AI-driven functionality aims to enhance the user experience and make browsing more efficient.

Opera plans to release Opera One R2 to a wider user base later this year, offering users a more intuitive and feature-rich browsing experience. Stay tuned for more updates on Opera’s innovative browser features and enhancements.
