Rooster Teeth, the studio behind popular animated shows like Red vs. Blue and RWBY, faced uncertainty after being shut down by Warner Bros. last month. While Red vs. Blue concluded with a movie in May, RWBY found itself in a bit of a limbo after moving to Crunchyroll for its final season.
However, the story of RWBY is not over yet. Viz Media announced during Anime Expo that they have acquired RWBY entirely and are planning for the show’s return. Although a greenlight for a 10th season has not been confirmed, Viz Media expressed interest in producing new chapters in the RWBY saga. Concept art suggests that the characters will face off against the series’ main antagonist, Salem, in the upcoming episodes.
Viz Media has been involved with RWBY through publishing manga spinoffs and a compendium book. The company teased exciting new stories in the works for the show’s future and confirmed that series co-creator Kerry Shawcross will continue to be part of the next phase. However, details about the return to streaming platforms and the involvement of other staff members remain unclear at this time.
Despite the lingering questions about RWBY’s future, fans can look forward to the show’s continuation under Viz Media’s direction. Singer Casey Lee Williams reassured fans that the show’s soundtracks will soon be available on all regular platforms again. The partnership with Viz Media offers a more promising outlook for RWBY compared to its previous situation with Warner Bros.
