Samsung recently unveiled its latest smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, which are packed with exciting new features. However, an eagle-eyed user on X (formerly known as Twitter) noticed that these new models are missing a key feature – Wireless PowerShare.
Wireless PowerShare is a handy feature that allows Samsung wearables to draw power from a Galaxy smartphone by simply placing the devices together. This feature has been removed from the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra due to the introduction of the new BioActive sensor on the back of the watches. This sensor array is more advanced than the previous model, offering deeper health metrics for users.
While the removal of Wireless PowerShare may disappoint some users, the tradeoff is worthwhile considering the enhanced health tracking capabilities of the new BioActive sensor array. The Galaxy Watch 7 can now provide insights into metabolic health and even detect signs of sleep apnea, thanks to this new technology.
It’s worth noting that the signs of PowerShare being phased out were evident in previous models, such as the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, which required users to remove the strap to use the feature. Samsung recommends using the wireless charger that comes with the Watch 7 to ensure optimal charging performance, as older chargers may result in slower charging times and increased heat generation due to the BioActive sensor array.
Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra are currently available, with the Watch 7 priced at $299 / £289 / AU$549 for the 40mm size and $329 / £319 / AU$599 for the 44mm size. The Watch Ultra is priced at $649 / £599 / AU$1,299 and is set to ship on July 24th.
