Elon Musk’s social network X has recently made some changes to its API pricing and limits, along with the introduction of annual subscription plans at discounted rates. The company announced that the basic API tier pricing will increase from $100 to $200 per month, but with higher limits and new endpoints included in this subscription plan.
According to a post on X’s developer community portal, developers using the basic API tier will now have an increased number of reads from 10,000 to 15,000, and access to new endpoints such as reposts_of_me and communities search. However, there seems to be a discrepancy as the API limits displayed on the comparison page and plan purchase page remain the same as before. The company has acknowledged this issue and plans to make the necessary corrections.
In addition to the changes in pricing and limits, X is introducing an experimental read API for the free tier. Despite this new feature, the post limits for the free tier have been reduced from 1,500 to 500, and the read API will only allow 100 requests.
Moreover, X has unveiled new annual subscription plans for both the Basic and Pro API tiers, offering a cost-effective alternative to monthly payments. The Basic annual plan is priced at $2,100, while the Pro annual plan costs $54,000. This move aims to provide developers with more flexibility and cost savings in utilizing X’s API services.
Earlier this year, X introduced top-ups for additional read and post requests, with a limit of 10 top-ups for the basic tier and five top-ups for the pro tier. However, the company has now restricted developers to only two top-ups per month for both tiers.
Overall, these changes in API pricing and subscription plans by X reflect the company’s efforts to enhance its developer offerings and provide more value to its users. Developers utilizing X’s API services can now choose from a variety of pricing options and subscription plans that best suit their needs and budget. With the introduction of annual subscriptions and updated API limits, X is positioning itself as a competitive player in the social networking API space, catering to the diverse requirements of developers worldwide.
