“The Boys” has been known for its shocking and entertaining content over the past four seasons. With the series coming to an end soon, some members of the cast believe that a movie would be the perfect way to conclude the story on a grand scale.
During a conversation with Josh Horowitz, Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) and Antony Starr (Homelander) expressed their desire to see the show expand into a film. Alonso has been advocating for this idea with creator Eric Kripke for a while, suggesting that the last episode of season five could serve as a cliffhanger leading into a movie that has been secretly filmed throughout the series. Starr also supports the idea of a theatrical film to conclude “The Boys.”
While it’s not uncommon for TV shows to transition into movies to provide closure or further the story, a film adaptation of “The Boys” would be a significant move given the show’s popularity. It would also be a statement from Prime Video that their superhero series can compete with major Hollywood productions. Interestingly, “The Boys” was initially planned as a film trilogy, so a movie adaptation would bring the show full circle.
However, there are potential obstacles in realizing Alonso’s vision. Amazon’s recent dispute with director Doug Liman over the release of “Road House” suggests that the streaming service may be reluctant to bypass theaters for a big franchise like “The Boys.” Audience response to other streaming hits like “The Mandalorian” may also influence Amazon’s decision.
