I’ve recently had the opportunity to test out the Velotric Summit 1, an electric hardtail mountain bike that offers a versatile riding experience at an affordable price point. Priced at just under $2,000, the Summit 1 is designed to appeal to a wide range of riders, from trail enthusiasts to commuters.

Velotric, known for its value-driven e-bike offerings, has made some compromises with the Summit 1 to keep costs low. While the bike may not perform as well on challenging trails as some higher-end models, it still offers a solid riding experience that can handle about 90 percent of what other bikes on the market can do. Additionally, the Summit 1 is well-suited for everyday use, such as commuting or running errands.

The assembly process of the Summit 1 was relatively straightforward, thanks to Velotric’s thoughtful packaging design. However, I did encounter some minor issues, such as difficulties with the front light assembly and connecting the electric cables. Despite these hiccups, the bike came together relatively easily.

In terms of design, the Summit 1 shares similarities with Velotric’s T-series bikes, featuring a removable battery and a sturdy frame. The rear hub motor, while not as powerful as some mid-motor configurations, offers a decent level of performance for most riders. The bike’s drivetrain, with eight gears and a Shimano Altus rear derailleur, may seem limited compared to other mountain bikes, but it is well-suited for the bike’s power assist system.

One notable compromise is the absence of a dropper seat, which may be missed during descents. However, the mountain bike fork from YDH provides adjustable cushioning and a lockout feature for smoother surfaces. The bike’s rims and tires, while not explicitly labeled, appear to be of decent quality.

Overall, the Summit 1 impresses with its minimal compromises considering its price point. While some features may not match those of higher-end mountain bikes, the bike offers a solid all-around riding experience for a fraction of the cost. In my upcoming review, I will delve into the bike’s electronics and how they impact its performance on the trails. Stay tuned for more insights on the Velotric Summit 1.
