Lawrence Yang from Valve explained that the metric used to determine the top-played games is a combination of these factors. For example, even though Hades 2 was only released a month ago, it has quickly become one of the most-played games among Steam Deck players for the entire year, boosting its ranking on the chart.
Currently, Elden Ring holds the top spot on the chart, followed by Stardew Valley in second place and Balatro in third. Both Hades 2 and Hades have also made it to the top ten. Some unexpected entries on the list include Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX in fifth place and Fallout 4 in sixth place.
