Microsoft has introduced one of the top work tablets of 2024 with the 11th-generation Surface Pro. This device is part of the new Copilot+ PCs lineup, which boasts next-gen hardware, a long-lasting battery, and a stunning OLED touchscreen. However, the generative AI features on this device do not quite meet the same level of performance as the rest of its features.
When the Copilot+ PCs were first announced, there was a lot of buzz surrounding them. Microsoft claimed that they outperformed the M3 MacBook Air and came with a host of new features. Consumers seemed excited about the prospect of a worthwhile Windows on ARM machine. Recently, I had the chance to test out the Microsoft Surface Pro 11th Edition and see if it lived up to the hype.
The hardware on the Surface Pro is impressive, housing Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite chipset, which is said to make this laptop a “MacBook killer.” While the device performs well, benchmark tests are challenging due to the newness of the chips. Third-party apps also run smoothly, thanks to the Prism emulator that allows them to run on Windows on ARM PCs.
The AI capabilities of the Copilot+ PC are a significant draw, but in practice, some features fall short. While the Studio Effects feature enhances the webcam and improves video calls, other features like the Cocreator AI image generator and Live Captions are less impressive. However, the PixelSense Flow touchscreen is a standout feature, providing a stunning display for professional users.
The Surface Pro’s speaker system offers surprisingly good audio quality, and accessories like the Surface Slim Pen and Flex keyboard enhance the overall user experience. The keyboard is sturdy and provides a comfortable typing experience, while the pen offers accurate input for writing and illustration tasks.
One of the standout features of the Surface Pro is its exceptional battery life, lasting nearly 13 hours on a single charge during testing. This makes it a reliable device for work and travel, lasting multiple days without needing to be recharged.
Overall, Microsoft’s Surface Pro 11th edition is a fantastic option for professional artists and users looking for a high-performance device with a brilliant display. While the starting price is $999.99, higher configurations with accessories like the Flex keyboard and Slim Pen can cost up to $1,699. Despite the additional cost, the Surface Pro offers a premium experience for users in need of a versatile and powerful work tablet.
