Tesla is known for its flashy events, and the upcoming Robotaxi reveal is expected to be no different. The event will take place at Warner Bros. Discovery’s movie studio in Burbank, California, with doors opening at 5 p.m. PT and remarks starting at 7 p.m. PT. For those unable to attend in person, Tesla will be livestreaming the event on X, which is owned by Elon Musk.

Initially teased by Musk in April with a planned reveal date of August 8, the Robotaxi had to be delayed due to a design change. This unveiling comes at the expense of a promised next-generation $25,000 EV, as Musk announced a shift in focus towards autonomy and the development of the Robotaxi.

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system has been a key part of Musk’s vision for autonomous driving. Despite its name, the system still requires human intervention and attention while driving. The idea of robotaxis was first introduced by Musk in 2019, with the concept of existing Teslas being able to operate autonomously with software updates. However, this plan has not yet come to fruition, and the goal of millions of robotaxis on the road by 2020 has not been achieved.

The focus of the upcoming event is expected to be more on the vehicle itself rather than the autonomous technology. Musk has expressed his desire to create a robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals, with the vehicle being described as Cybertruck-inspired, two-door, and two-seater in Walter Isaacson’s Elon Musk biography.

TechCrunch will be providing live coverage of the event, so be sure to stay tuned for updates on this highly anticipated Robotaxi reveal.
