Yieldstreet, an alternative investment platform, has confirmed that some of its customers were impacted by a recent data breach at Evolve Bank and Trust. This information was exclusively shared with TechCrunch by Yieldstreet spokesperson Clare Burrows. While the exact details of the customer information that may have been stolen were not disclosed, Yieldstreet is actively communicating with affected customers and following cybersecurity best practices.
The data breach at Evolve Bank and Trust also affected customers of other companies, including Affirm, Branch, EarnIn, Marqeta, Melio, Mercury, and Wise. Branch, a partner of Evolve, has notified its customers about the incident and urged them to monitor their account activity closely. Despite the breach, Branch assured customers that the safety and security of their platform and mobile application were not compromised.
Additionally, Juno, a crypto service company, and Yotta, a fintech company, were among the businesses impacted by the Evolve breach. Data stolen from Evolve and posted online by the cybercrime group Lockbit also suggested that other companies like Bitfinex, BrightSide, Copper, Dave, Fund That Flip, Nomad, Rho, and SoLo Funds may have been affected. However, most of these companies have not responded to requests for comments.
When questioned about the extent of the breach’s impact, Evolve spokesperson Eric Helvie did not provide specific numbers but directed inquiries to the company’s blog post on the incident. Despite the lack of comprehensive information, it is evident that the data breach at Evolve Bank and Trust has had far-reaching consequences across multiple financial institutions and their customers.
As the situation continues to unfold, it is crucial for individuals and businesses to remain vigilant about monitoring their accounts and protecting their credentials. Cybersecurity incidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the importance of robust security measures and proactive responses to safeguard sensitive information in an increasingly digital world.
