Microsoft Expands Copilot+ Features for Intel and AMD PCs

Microsoft has announced that two Copilot+ features, Microsoft Recall and Click to Do, are now available for compatible Intel and AMD PCs. These features were initially limited to laptops with Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus processors, but now a wider range of PC owners can take advantage of them.

Microsoft Recall: A Controversial Yet Efficient Tool

One of the two features, Microsoft Recall, has garnered attention for its unique functionality. It captures your activity on the computer by taking screenshots every few seconds. This data is then used by Windows to assist you in finding specific information from your past activities, such as recipes, conversations, or documents. While Microsoft Recall offers significant benefits in terms of simplifying and speeding up information retrieval, it has also sparked debates surrounding privacy and security concerns.

Click to Do: Enhancing User Experience

The second feature, Click to Do, offers a more straightforward utility that is less controversial. It allows users to perform common tasks after taking a screenshot of text or images. For text captures, users can copy the words, open the text in an app, search online for selected text, visit a URL, or start an email. Image captures enable users to copy it to the clipboard, save to a specific location, share it, open in a specific app, start an image search in Bing, or edit the image in the Photos app with various editing options.

Compatibility and Limitations

To utilize these features on your Intel or AMD PC, it must have a processor with an NPU that meets Copilot+ requirements. Currently, laptops with Intel Lunar Lake (Core Ultra 200V series) or AMD Ryzen AI 300 CPUs are eligible. However, not all features that leverage the local NPU, such as Microsoft’s Studio Effects or Cocreator tool within Paint, are available at this time.

Join the Windows Insiders Program

If you wish to try Microsoft Recall and Click to Do, you will need to join the Windows Insiders program and install Build 26120.2510 from the Dev Channel. Keep in mind that these early preview versions of Windows may have bugs or incomplete functionality, as highlighted in Microsoft’s blog post.
