Last month, Warner Bros. announced that a sequel to the 2018 animated movie Batman Ninja is currently in development. Titled Batman Ninja vs. the Yakuza League, this new adventure will see the Caped Crusader facing off against his allies from the Justice League in a unique setting.

In this sequel, Batman and his sidekick Robin (who is his son Damian in this iteration) will be battling against evil versions of their superpowered friends. Set in an alternate version of present-day Japan, the characters have been reimagined to fit the period-specific theme. Aquaman is depicted as a fisherman, Wonder Woman as a fierce warrior, Flash as a ronin, and Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is seen wielding a lantern to harness her powers. The big question remains: why have these heroes turned evil? It will be up to Batman and Robin to defeat them and hopefully restore them to their true selves.

Interestingly, Superman is notably absent from the lineup of villains in this sequel. While previous Batman vs. Justice League stories often feature Superman as the main antagonist, his exclusion from the marketing of this film suggests that the focus will be on the other Yakuza members and not on another Batman vs. Superman showdown. Despite this, the new movie shows great promise, building on the absurdity and fun of the original film by introducing Batman’s colleagues into the mix.

Fans of Batman Ninja can look forward to the release of Batman Ninja vs. the Yakuza League on digital and physical formats in the near future. The first movie garnered a following for its over-the-top nature, and this sequel seems to be taking things to the next level by incorporating Batman’s allies into the storyline.
