San Diego Comic-Con is a place where fans from all different genres can come together to celebrate their favorite shows and movies. This year, the convention will feature a special panel with the showrunners of Star Trek and Doctor Who, Alex Kurtzman and Russell T. Davies. The panel, titled “Friendship is Universal,” is set to take place on Saturday, July 27, just before International Friendship Day on July 30.
The goal of the panel is to bring fans of both franchises together and create a sense of community among them. In addition to the panel, there will be a gallery experience showcasing original props and costumes from both Star Trek and Doctor Who. Attendees of the panel will also receive a special Doctor Who x Star Trek poster by artist Dusty Abell, as well as friendship bracelets to commemorate the event.
Star Trek and Doctor Who have a long history of influencing each other, with both shows debuting in the mid-60s and tackling similar themes such as race, gender, and war. Although there were talks of a TV crossover between the two series, these plans were put on hold when Star Trek shifted its focus to film. Despite this, fans are excited to hear Kurtzman and Davies discuss their approaches to the material at the upcoming panel.
The “Friendship is Universal” panel will take place on Saturday, July 27 from 5:30-6:30 pm PT in room 6A. The gallery experience will be located at 226 and 230 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp district.
