In the world of podcasting, the Rodecaster Pro was a huge hit when it was released in late 2018. Now, after six years, microphone manufacturer Rode is expanding its user-friendly line to include video production.

The Rodecaster Video is entering a more competitive market than the original Pro board did. With the current focus on video content in the post-pandemic era, many similar devices have been introduced. However, the Video comes with a higher price tag of $1,119, nearly double the Pro’s original price of $600.

Rode is targeting the same beginner audience that was drawn to the Pro board initially. The Video is designed for those looking to enhance their video production skills without investing in a full professional setup.

While the Pro board is geared towards in-person audio podcasts, the Video has a broader range of applications. It can be used by solo Twitch streamers as well as for multi-person in-studio video productions. The Video is also more compact than its predecessor, making it suitable for use in front of a computer rather than in the center of a podcasting table.

Featuring two Neutrik jacks with pre-amps for XLR mics, four HDMI inputs, and two USB-C inputs, the Video allows users to switch between various video sources in real-time. Its audio processing capabilities include EQ, a compressor, high-pass filter, de-esser, and noise gate.

The Video can automatically key out green and blue screens, switch audio between video sources, and stream content to major platforms via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. Additionally, it can record directly to an external hard drive.

Rode’s CEO, Damien Wilson, expressed the company’s commitment to providing creators with professional yet accessible audio and now video equipment. He mentioned that products like the Rodecaster Pro and Wireless GO have revolutionized content creation across different categories by offering high-quality audio solutions to creators. The Rodecaster Video aims to do the same for video production.

Preorders for the Rodecaster Video are now available, with shipping set to begin on October 10th. The Video promises to be a game-changer for creators looking to elevate their video production capabilities with a user-friendly and versatile device.
