Yesterday, Google rolled out a new update for Chrome 130 on Windows, macOS, and Linux. This update addresses three critical security vulnerabilities in the browser. These vulnerabilities have not been exploited yet, but it’s important to update your browser to stay protected.
The three security vulnerabilities were discovered by external security researchers and reported to Google. They are categorized as high risk, with two of them involving “type confusion in the V8 JavaScript engine” and the third involving an “inappropriate implementation in extensions.”
This update follows last week’s release of Chrome 130, which fixed 17 security vulnerabilities. Google is already looking ahead to Chrome 131, which is expected to be released in mid-November.
While Chrome typically updates automatically, you can manually check for updates by going to Help > About Google Chrome in the three-dot menu.
It’s not just Chrome that is addressing these security vulnerabilities. Other browsers based on Chromium, like Microsoft Edge and Brave, have already made the switch to Chromium 130. Vivaldi is also working on finalizing its 7.0 browser release based on Chromium 130.
However, Opera seems to be lagging behind. Opera 114 is still on Chromium 138, Opera 115 is based on Chromium 129 and is still in the testing phase, and Opera 116 is even further behind.
In the world of web browsers, security is a top priority. If you’re concerned about your online safety, it’s essential to choose a browser that prioritizes security, privacy, and features. Make sure to keep your browser up to date to protect yourself from potential security threats.
