Google has officially announced the release of a new foldable smartphone, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, in a teaser video. The company described the phone as being “built for the Gemini era” in a tweet promoting the device. The video also highlighted the gen AI chatbot feature of the phone. Like the non-foldable Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a noticeable camera bump. The lenses are positioned vertically on one side of the phone, resulting in the camera bump being concentrated in one area and not extending across the entire width of the folded device.

Although Google has not yet formally introduced the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a leak from Android Authority has provided insight into what to expect from the upcoming Pixel 9 models. The National Communications Commission (NCC) of Taiwan leaked images of the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold, showcasing an unfolded version of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. These images reveal that Google has relocated the selfie camera to the inside screen for a wider field of view. Additionally, the leak indicates that the model features a reduced fold crease on the display, measuring approximately 250mm or just under 10 inches.

Moreover, the NCC leak suggests that the new devices will require larger chargers, as they have faster charging rates compared to previous models. However, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was found to have the slowest charging speed among the upcoming devices. More information on these specifications will be available when Google officially launches the new smartphones at the upcoming Made by Google event scheduled for August 13.

In anticipation of the official release, tech enthusiasts and consumers are eager to learn more about the innovative features and capabilities of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. With the growing popularity of foldable smartphones in the market, Google’s entry into this category is expected to generate significant interest and competition among other leading manufacturers. Stay tuned for updates on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and other exciting announcements from Google’s upcoming event.
