Large companies are struggling to use AI effectively, especially when it comes to Generative AI that needs constant training data updates. This new field is called ‘Live AI’, and there are startups like Cohere and Writer working in this area. Pathway, another startup, recently raised $10 million in funding to develop live AI systems that can think and learn in real-time like humans.
The funding round was led by TQ Ventures, with participation from other investors like Kadmos, Innovo, Market One Capital, Id4, and angel investors. Lukasz Kaiser, co-author of Transformers and a key researcher behind GPT o1 from OpenAI, is also an investor in Pathway. The company’s live AI systems are designed to process structured and unstructured data, allowing enterprise AI platforms to make decisions based on up-to-date information. NATO and La Poste, the French post office, are among Pathway’s current customers.
Zuzanna Stamirowska, Co-Founder and CEO of Pathway, explained that traditional deep learning models lack memory and the ability to learn from live data. Pathway’s solution allows developers to feed live data into AI systems, making them more dynamic and responsive. Stamirowska has put together a highly technical team, including CSO Adrian Kosowski and CTO Jan Chorowski, who have worked with renowned AI researcher Geoff Hinton.
Stamirowska shared that the idea for Pathway came to her during a scientific conference in Chicago, where she decided to start her own venture. She highlighted the importance of live data in AI systems and emphasized the need for real-time learning capabilities. In comparison to other startups in the space, Pathway focuses on GenAI engineering and knowledge management, positioning itself alongside Cohere and Writer in the industry.
Schuster Tanger, Co-Managing Partner at TQ Ventures, praised Pathway for its cutting-edge approach to AI and its strong developer community support. The company’s commitment to live AI and real-time learning sets it apart from competitors in the market. This funding round will enable Pathway to further develop its technology and expand its customer base in the enterprise AI sector.
