Amazon has introduced a new feature on Prime Video called “X-Ray Recaps” to enhance the viewing experience for its users. This feature uses generative AI to create concise summaries of entire seasons, single episodes, and even parts of episodes without revealing any spoilers. The company has assured that precautions have been taken to prevent spoilers from being generated, allowing viewers to enjoy their favorite series without any unwanted surprises.
The “X-Ray Recaps” feature is an extension of the existing X-Ray feature on Prime Video, which provides information about the cast and other trivia when the screen is paused. To access the Recaps, users can visit the detail page of a TV show and select from three options: recap the current episode, recap the entire season, or recap the previous season.
Currently, the feature is in beta and is only available to Fire TV customers in the U.S. Initially, it can be accessed on Amazon MGM Studios original titles like “Daisy Jones & the Six,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “The Wheel of Time,” and “The Boys.” It is expected to be rolled out to additional devices by the end of the year.
Amazon has revealed that “X-Ray Recaps” utilizes custom AI models created with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker to analyze video, subtitles, and dialogue to provide key event descriptions and other information. The feature is personalized to match the exact moment the viewer is watching, whether they are starting a new episode, in the middle of a season, or returning to a series after some time.
This announcement from Prime Video follows Google TV’s release of a similar AI-generated summaries tool for TV shows and movies. The competition between streaming platforms to enhance the user experience and provide innovative features continues to benefit viewers who seek more convenient ways to enjoy their favorite content without the fear of spoilers.
